DRIVE TO SURVIVE
Have you ever read about your "personal space," the area directly around you that you feel no one should violate?? You, your baby and your car should have that same type of space around you which -- if violated by another vehicle -- makes you feel "creeped out." Pay attention in all directions and safely maneuver your vehicle so that you can work that "creep" out of your SAF-T-SPACE! Call it a cushion of air if you want to -- but the point is that accidents occur ONLY because two cars try to occupy the same space at the same time. Don't let others get so close that you have no safety bailout options, at those crucial times when something happens that would cause you to have to immediately change lanes, stop, turn, or speed up. With enough Saf-T-Space around you, YOU can be in control of all situations, at all times.
The closer you are to another vehicle, the closer you are to an accident! It's really just good ole common sense when you think about it; a collision between two drivers is nothing more than both of them trying to occupy the same space at the same time. But no matter what the other drivers around you might be doing --- you have something at your disposal that you can use as much of as you need -- as often as you need it. It's called...
Captain Kirk use to say, "Space, the final frontier." But at SAFERMOM.COM we say:
Have you ever driven your car right next to one of these 18-wheel steel giants? If one of you makes a mistake -- you and your car are toast! Of the almost 8,000 deaths attributed anually to accidents involving cars and large trucks, 90% of those killed are drivers and passengers from the cars, not the occupants in the truck! So what's an acceptable distance to keep between you and the steel giant? Where is the safest spot? In front? Behind? The side? |
SAF-T-SPACE!
The closer you are to another vehicle, the closer you are to an accident. Accidents are a 360 degree phenomenon. You can collide with another vehicle on any point on the compass. Therefore you need to always increase the room around you -- in every direction!
During the few minutes it takes to drive from one stop light to another, make the RIGHT choices! Choose safety over music. Choose safety over water, makeup, conversation. Choose safety over cell phones. Choose safety over arriving one minute sooner. |
"MORE SPACE: FRONT, SIDE and REAR!"
Do you consider it safe for Little Ole ME to be standing in between these moving vehicles? No? Well you're right! It ISN'T safe! So why would you feel "supposedly safe" when you're driving next to moving vehicles with very little space between you and them? If you want to avoid accidents, avoid them! It's easy!! Just avoid getting close to the "other guy" who represents your potential "accident partner!"
