Make travel more comfortable

Young people age 15-20 make up almost seven percent of the total driving population --
but are involved in 14 percent of all fatal crashes.

What gives?

Well for starters, over 60 percent of teens who die in passenger vehicle crashes were not wearing seatbelts. Also, about 25% of deaths from speed-related crashes were young people ages 15-20.
For more information see:
NHTSA's Save Teen Drivers Program

Also, see our "Growing Tummy" and  "Accidents-UteroTrauma" sections to learn more about why you have to be extra careful in your vehicle.

New Mom AND New Driver!

Inexperienced drivers come in all shapes, sizes
and ages
There are teenage drivers who are the safest people on the road, and there are some 40 year olds have no idea what safe driving is all about!

We're not assuming because you are a teen-mom that you are also a poor driver (or that your husband and/or friends are either)

However, let's be cautious due to the statistical possibilities.

Chances are good that you
are inexperienced.

There are ways to help gain the experience that will make you a much safer driver -- especially now that you have a baby between you and the steering wheel.  Talk to friends, family or driving instructors you may know and work hard and becoming a
safer driver. It doesn't happen by accident!

Also, in a short time you will be transporting your newborn baby around town in your motor vehicle, so please take the time to review all of the safety issues related to driving with a newborn in a car seat.  Our
links page features safety tips from agencies such as the March of Dimes and the American Academy of Pediatrics among others.

WHY SAFETY BELTS?
1,000,000 new drivers will have
1,000,000 new babies this year
A lot to handle all at once

The census beureau reports young women between the ages of 15 and 21 have approximately 25% of the babies born every year!

On average the annual US birth rate is 4,000,000 babies, which means approxiamtely 1 million of those babies are
traveling in vehicles driven mainly by teen moms and their teen friends.

6,000 young people (passengers and drivers age 15-20) died in motor vehicle crashes on average the last few years.

The number of teens with permanent, life altering brain injuries, paralysis and other symptons is ten times that amount.
